Designing Your Alpine Log Home

STARTING POINT

Alpine Log Homes takes special pride in its custom home design services and our award-winning staff. Over the course of several conversations, representatives from Alpine Log Homes and clients mutually determine the style, size, budget and design criteria for their custom log home design. Our staff will study any plans, sketches, or clippings you may provide. If you prefer, we can begin by using photos and plans of existing Alpine homes to serve as a starting point for your log home design.

COST ESTIMATE

National research indicates a well-appointed home – regardless of log system, profile, species, or supplier – will have a turn-key cost in the $300 per square foot range (excluding land).

Based on the information we receive from you, we provide a preliminary cost estimate for the total log home project. The Alpine package, which typically represents about 25 percent of the above-mentioned turn-key cost, includes the architectural design of the structure, working drawings, engineering, crafting of the log structure, shipping to your building site, and an on-site reassembly advisor. (The advisor is usually one of the craftsmen that built your home, and he is on hand for the entire reassembly of the logwork onto your foundation.)

THE DESIGN

After the initial meetings to discuss the architecture of your log home have been concluded and the estimate has been approved, we are now ready to proceed with your custom home design. The first step will be the development of concept drawings. The Concept Drawings are the first generation of drawings that follow an in-depth consultation with Alpine’s design department. They are the first step toward making your ideas a reality. Consultation may be done by telephone, which is the most common, or in person. During this conference, you will work with the designers to further delineate your ideas and discuss special features of your home’s design. The resulting drawings will consist of all floor plans and at least one elevation. These detailed Concept Drawings will be sent to you for review and comment.

After the Concept Drawings receive your approval, the designers will develop Progress Drawings. The Progress Drawings consist of quarter-inch scale floor plans, a cross section, and two elevations. These architecturally-correct, log home drawings are forwarded to you for further study and for final changes.

Upon approval of the Progress Drawings, complete Working Drawings are generated. The Working Drawings consist of the foundation plan, all floor plans, roof and floor framing plans, interior cross sections, and four exterior elevations. Detailing and structural engineering are also included.
