An Alpine Log Home featured in
The Log Home Plan Book
By Cindy Thiede with Heather Mehra-Pederson
"Up North Wisconsin Cottage"
Built on a hill overlooking the lake, this ... is as playful as it is charming. Designed by its artist owner in conjunction with the staff at Alpine Log Homes, it incorporates some unusual features. The second-floor dormer is decorated with a sunburst collar tie. A metal arch secured to a "tie" log spanning the gable end mirrors the circle-top window behind it. Posts that radiate out from the arch are attached to the purlins supporting the dormer roof. ...the right side of the dormer roof sweeps down to meet the hip roof covering the broad porch - a practical feature that serves to divert snow and rain away from the entry.
The full walk-out basement supports the upper two stories on a striking foundation framed by three colorful stone archways. Ample green-trimmed windows and glass doors imbue this vacation retreat with antiquated cottage charm. Railed steps bushwhack down to the shore.
